May 2015 kicks off the next chapter in my life: “the move”. When I signed my lease in April 2014 my landlord let me know they would be putting my condo on the market at the end of the lease. Normally, I would have started looking for a new home instead of signing; but, being I had just lost my job (literally a few days before) I really didn’t have too many options. I knew I would not qualify for a new lease without a job. So I got out my pen and signed!
February 2015 the apartment search began! WOW prices have gone up, like, way, way up! Anything “somewhat comparable” (aka without an in unit washer and dryer) was $300+ a month! Being that I was unemployed for 9 out of 12 months in 2014, paying that much just wasn’t an option!
I opened my search to a larger area – including the Long Beach area. I was even open to a roommate. In true “Leone” fashion, cost was my driving factor! There were a few MUST haves: In unit washer and dryer (I work so much I really feared I would never have clean clothes), a safe area, my own parking space (the bad foot <as Dave says “the bad wheel”> does not like walking far), a first floor unit with a patio, and a space equal to or bigger than my current home.
By the Grace of God I found my new home!!! It wasn’t available until May (a month after my lease was up!). I found a complex in Oceanside (the nice area) on the 1st floor with a washer and dryer! And even with “pet rent” (urgh I think “pet rent” is the MOST ridiculous thing EVER) it WAS in my price range!
This is the FIRST TIME EVER I am glad I have the most laid back landlord!! He had no problem with me extending my least one month!
SO! Friday was moving day!!! OMG I HATE moving!! Like, I really hate moving! And even after purging soooooooo much stuff from the NJ-CA move and NOT buying more stuff I HAD SOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH STUFF TO MOVE!!! It took almost double the time I was quoted to finish the move (urgh and more $$ than I was quoted too!).
So tonight is my 3rd night in my new, chaotic home! Poor Gateau spend all weekend confined to my new bedroom (per his Vet’s suggestion), he is out about exploring now. And MY body HURTS in places I never knew existed! I even tried to wash two bruises off my legs! They were so black I thought they were dirt!
I had a lot of help unpacking today! Things are still chaotic and unorganized but I am down to under 15 boxes! I have a few bigger ticket items to purchase (outdoor weatherproof storage, bathroom storage system etc). And my home office is setup (yay, work tomorrow). At least I know I have this place for a full year!
I know that EVERYTHING happens for a reason! I really want to live closer to LA county, I just really Hope, and pray that in 365 days I have WAY MORE resources to enable me to move again with less stress.
Next urgent item to tackle: figuring out WHY my shower head water pressure is horrific!
