Obviously, THIS message is a REPEAT learning for me (https://wp.me/p4vHpu-bc). You know I post what is on my mind & heart and I don’t edit. Well….a couple of weeks ago I had the same epiphany – clearly I need to PAY ATTENTION to repeat messages!
For those of you who know me, KNOW that I am a planner! I am a project manager / meeting planner by career. I have spent the past 15 ish years PLANNING. Those of you who are super blessed to know me prior to 15 years ago know that I used to be a super spontaneous go with the flow type (some of you can’t even imagine this Christine)!
It is crazy (bot not really) how much your career can add to your attributes! I remember the days of being 18 ish and saying “pick a place on the map and let’s drive there!” or, “we’ve never been to XYZ town let’s go!” I VIVIDLY remember asking my mom “how to get to Ho-Ho-Kus (NJ)” after she told me I then grabbing my keys and her asking me where I was going – I simply replied “ummm Ho-Ho-Kus (in a confused voice)”. In my mind, I was like WHY would I ask how to get there if you didn’t think I was going? BTW Ho-Ho-Kus was just such a Fun name and about 40+ min from where I lived!
My point is, I used to be super go with the flow and spontaneous; then I morphed into a planner where every.single.thing. was planned out. On this (amazing <and terrifying, yet amazing>) entrepreneurial journey I am RE-LEARNING to go with it. This is unfamiliar territory to me.
I take this “unfamiliar territory” TWO ways – ONE “WTF are you thinking, woman! PLAN” and “GIRL just go with it, loosen that stick, embrace who you USED to be”! I can honestly say I embrace BOTH! I used to be a go with the flow and now I am a professional planner. Sometimes life forces me “build the plane on the way down after I jump” and sometimes it gives me a full itinerary before getting to the airport (even thought I travel a lot, I hope you’re following the analogies!
So here is to embracing the unfamiliar, the <sometimes very> uncomfortable and learning to just GO WITH IT! You don’t ALWAYS need to know your next step!
